BSA Pack # 282

About Pack 282

Pack 282 was founded in 2006 when Pack 281 grew so large that parents decided to split into two Packs, organized mostly on school boundaries.  As such, Pack 282 draws mostly from Los Alamitos Elementary School in Almaden.  We have around 50 scouts in all Den levels.

Pack 282 conducts a year-round program.  The Pack meets (typically) on the 3rd Thursday of the month at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church from September through June, and then offers several fun events during the summer months.  Typical annual activities include:

  • Pinewood Derby
  • Blue and Gold Dinner
  • Fall and Spring Family Campouts
  • Special overnight events (past examples: Monterey Bay Aquarium, Aircraft carrier USS Hornet, WWII submarine USS Pampanito, Oakland Zoo, San Jose Giants Scout Night)
  • Pack hikes
  • Parades (past examples: Veterans Day Parade in Downtown San Jose, 4th of July Parade in Almaden)
  • Raingutter Regatta or Space Derby
In addition, the Pack typical participates in several Service activities each year, including:
  • Scouting for Food
  • Stepping Out for Scleroderma Walk
  • Memorial Day flag placement on graves of US Veterans at Oak Hill Memorial Park
  • Site improvements for our charter organization
